We roll into Darwin for a week long visit. Jenelle had been here 50 years ago for the afternoon while her ship to Singapore and London was in port. This is the first visit to Darwin for John. What will we find?
In short we are very impressed. A green, clean and fabulously presented city. The road system has to be the best in Australia. Four and six lane freeways criss-cross the city. Darwin has certianly come of age. A big country town feel in a small modern city. If it wasn't so hot most of the year we could definetly live here.
Very little graffiti and dozens, if not hundreds of murals...
Even the street planter pots and bins are decorated with murals..
Darwin is modern city with all the facilities and is still quite walkable...
Early one morning we headed out of town to Fogg Dam, a major birding location and were well rewarded.
On the way out look what we spotted hiding under the lilly pads beside the road we had been just walking along...
Late Sunday afternoon we headed to the Mindil Beach night markets, which start at 4pm and go through to 9pm. Plenty of food stalls and entertainment...
We stayed for the sunset which was made even more spectacular by the smoke from controlled burns...
