We had no idea how big Territory day is. When we first arrived in Darwin we saw advertising everywhere for fireworks. Signs in lurid colours screaming "Order your fireworks now". Hmmm, that's interesting we thought.
Late in the afternoon we headed back to Mindil Beach where the offical fireworks display was to be held. We arrived at about 5pm and the crowd was building fast.
As the sun set the crowd on the beach was pumping...
One end of the beach is cordoned off for private fireworks. The party gets started here even before it gets dark. The private fireworks was constant from 6pm though to 11pm. This is the sacantioned time, and it never let up...
After sunset for as far as the eye could see the sky above the coast line was ablaze with the sparkel of fireworks. And the grass fires had already started...
The RAAF F-35s put on a pre-show display...
At 8.15pm the main event kicked off...
